Fact-Sheet: How Many People Have so Far Received the COVID-19 Vaccine in The Gambia?

A total of 363,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines namely: AstraZeneca, Sinopharm and Johnson & Johnson have so far entered the country since the pandemic began in The Gambia. Despite the hesitancy in taking the vaccine, increasing number of people are going for their first or second dose.

According to The Gambia COVID-19 situational report by the Ministry of Health (MoH), 98,655 people have so far received their first dose or Johnson & Johnson and Sinopharm vaccines, while 31, 254 people were yet to receive their second dose of AstraZeneca.

Gambia’s COVID-19 Situation :

Vaccine Administered: 142,212

Johnson & Johnson:  94,976

Sinopharm : 3,679

Persons fully vaccinated:   12,303

Persons vaccinated at least with one dose: 31, 254

Confirmed Covid_19 cases:  8,603

Active cases: 825

Fatalities rates: 242 persons 

So far, the country has officially registered 8,603 with over  7,000 recoveries and 242 deaths.

About 60% (59% precisely) of the confirmed cases were males and 58.6 females between the ages of 35 and 85 years respectively.

However, there were still 58 contacts lost to follow up and about 13 people are being monitored in quarantine centers while about 30 COVID-19 patients are on oxygen support in treatment centres.

However, the West Coast Region recorded the highest number of people with COVID-19 infections across the country.

The Gambia received its first consignment of 36,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine under COVAX in March 2021.
